My Top 5: Events to Look Forward to this Semester
Welcome back! New year, new you, AND new events to look forward to (tehehe see what I did there). If you’re anything like me and want to set events in your calendar months in advance, this article is for you. I’m sure a lot of you were sad that you missed out on some amazing performances and events, so here are my top 5 spring semester events that I am looking forward to!
- Harambee

ASU hosts the famous event known as Harambee! This even includes cultural dances, traditional fashion shows, and plays. With a wide variety of performances, best be sure that I am already thinking about where I am going to sit!
- Lunar New Year Festival (LNYF)

In celebration of the Lunar New Year, the Asian American Student Association presents our annual Lunar New Year Festival! This year’s LNYF will feature over 350 student performers and 20 different acts. I remember watching Tinkling at Spotlight and was mesmerized. Be there or be squared.
- Vivid Dance Battle
If you enjoyed the VIVID showcase last semester, just WAIT until this semester. This time around, there will be more groups and more songs. If you enjoy K-pop and even if you don’t it will be a fun night! (also I may or may not be involved in this one hehe)
- Commons Ball

Ah yes, a night to dress fancy. You know I’ve had a dress in my closet that has been collecting dust and now I have the perfect opportunity to use it. Also, don’t forget your masks and keep the night mysterious! It will be like our own Another Cinderella Story!
- BSA: The Black Affair

Another opportunity to dress to impress. All who like dressing up say, “I.”

MCL Feature: The Weather is No Bueno for Mis Outfits
Before coming here, I was told that Tennessee is a hot place. So, me being the trusting person I am, believed them. You can only imagine my surprise when the temperature dropped like 50 degrees within the span of 24 hours. Not to mention I only have like one jacket and one pair of pants that don’t have any rips. However, at least I wore some of my favorite outfits literally the week before the temperature change. So, just keep in mind that if you see me around campus wearing the same jacket and jean combo, I promise I don’t always dress like that. Just wait for the temperature to increase PLEASEEE. Well now that I am done rambling here are a few of the pictures I chose, enjoy! (Also don’t mind my inability to take pictures I’m working on it lol)

Is there something in the walls?

Does everyone just have a mysterious cough? Any lecture hall I walk into sounds like a choir performing bronchitis the musical. I can barely even hear the professor, but I mean My attention span doesn’t last that long anyways so I’m not missing much. But it’s not the average cough, it’s a mixture of a very dry and thick cough, like it rings in the air for at least 2 minutes, and I can feel it ringing in MY chest. Couldn’t imagine myself, but my lack of imagination got the best of me.
I had the pleasure of getting sick just two weeks ago. I thought it was just a common cold, but then my cough wouldn’t stop. Like WOULD NOT stop. I realized that it happened only when I was in my dorm. As soon as I walked in it was as if I had walked into a cloud of dust and it was turning my lungs inside out. I’m not the type of person to get sick very badly, I usually thug it out without medicine (don’t be like me). When I realized I only had allergy medicine and not cough medicine I started to heavily regret my life decisions. I don’t even have allergies. Why is that the only medicine I own?

I honestly feel so bad for my roommate, she probably thought I had tuberculosis lowkey. Also, my floormates, it’s like the sickness is just roaming through the vents waiting to catch its next victim. One thing I thought was odd was the fact that I was fine literally anywhere on campus. No cough, not even a sniffle. But as SOON as I walked into a residential hall I was on the brink of death and could not breathe to save my life (quite literally). It made me think about how much dust accumulates in the dorms. Where is it even coming from? When was the last time each room was deep cleaned? I try not to dwell on these questions too much for my own sanity. Sometimes staying oblivious is best.
College sickness is on a completely different level. It’s ok I’ve learned my lesson, but others have not. PSA if you are sick, please stay away from me, that’s a once in a lifetime experience, I’m not sure if I would survive another one. Also, if you are the one that got me sick, I hope both sides of your pillow are hot!

MCL Top5: Gen Chem Exam Survival Items
If you are anything like me and do not prioritize studying till the week of the test, here is the article for you. I’m not the best at chem and I am also taking bio this semester so I wouldn’t say that chem is my priority. I will say that I was having dreams about calculating work functions and kinetic energy (grind time 24/7). Since the first infamous gen chem exam is over and I can finally SLEEP PEACEFULLY…here are some things that I did to make sure I was prepared (sure…) for the test:

5. Coffee:
Yea… no sleep, just calculating de Broglie wavelength and memorizing whatever that guy Aufbau was saying about his principles (just a joke please sleep :). But can you guys stop going to Suzie’s, the lines are getting too long 🙁

4. Aktiv:
I never understood half of the aktiv questions in chem discussion…and I still don’t…but that’s not the point. Going back and actually making sure I knew what I was doing was what took up a majority of my time.

3. Textbook:
Textbooks just… make sense. Sure they might be lengthy, but the textbook really breaks everything down and it was worth the time. Also all of the practice problems, even though they were time consuming, are WORTH. IT. I finally know who Aufbau is (perhaps a bit too late…but YAYYY!)

2. Organic Chemistry Tutor:
Taking chem at 8 in the morning was really not the right move on my part (still love Dr.Todd). I thought I was a morning person but ahaha…I was lying to myself. He breaks stuff down and gives more practice problems (you can never have too much practice). The goat for real. Also I didn’t know how to use my calculator till like the day of. Why are we doing calculations

1. Practice Test:
Honestly life saver. Made the mistake of not taking the practice test on my first bio exam and when I saw my score I was like, “ Out of 100?!” In all seriousness though I could really tell my strengths and weaknesses so it did absolutely make a difference. I might even like…chem… a little… like in picometers little.
If I had started studying earlier I probably would not have started my coffee addiction (shoutout to Suzie’s much love). Also a tip from Dr.Clements, “Don’t live crisis to crisis.” Do I still live crisis to crisis? Duhhhhhh now I’m gonna continue to ignore my aktiv learning while I study for my bio exam next week. Until next time Dores, Anchor down and use your time wisely (unlike me hehe)!
